Training and achieving success
I’ll keep this blog short and simple:
- Train at such a high level, so that when game time comes, it’ll be impossible for the game to be any harder than your training has been.
- If you train like everyone trains, then you’re going to have similar results. You must go above and beyond with your training in order to separate yourself from the competition.
- Focus on one area and become a master of it. It’s not about saying “I know that or understand that” but instead “I’ve mastered that.”
- Don’t be average in several areas when you can be great in one area. If you want to be the best then you have to concentrate your efforts in one area.
- Success is not a cake walk; it’s not a visit to Disneyland. It comes from hours and hours of daily dedication in one specific area. Focus your energy and efforts.
One touch football
The English Premier League this year is proving to be one of the better ones of the past decade. Traditionally, we have a better idea as to who will win the EPL by this point in the season but not this year. Fortunately for Manchester United, they have a history under Sir Alex Ferguson to hit their stride just after the Christmas break and their recent game versus Sunderland was an indication of some great football to come. Goalden has been following the One World Futbol Project very closely. They have inspired much of what we do as bloggers. For those of you unaware of what this projects mission is, co-founders Tim Jahnigen and Lisa Tarver, along with the helpful hand of celebrity musician and actor Sting, have embarked upon a journey of creating the world’s most durable ball in order to allow anyone anywhere – under any circumstances - to have the joy of playing with a real soccer ball. Team Goalden was lucky enough to have a 1 on 1 with one of the co-founders of the project Tim Jahnigen.
Real Madrid celebrate with crotch slaps
OK this is just embarrassing! If you’re a Real Madrid fan here is another reason why NOT to be one. Real Madrid recently celebrated a goal with crotch slaps. Yes that is correct…crotch slaps. The embarrassing moment came after the 7th goal in their 8-0 Copa del Rey win over Levante. Whether you’re a Real Madrid fan or not this behavior has nothing to do with the game and only embarrasses anybody who enjoys the sport of soccer. Read more
Soccer: How to Improve Every Day
I recently watched the Toronto Raptors of the NBA take on the LA Lakers. Kobe Bryant of the Lakers was obviously the player to watch. After reading up on him I learned some interesting facts. Kobe Bryant is obviously an incredible talent but in a recent interview he stated that to prepare for the upcoming season he was up running at the track everyday at 6am. He then went on to take 1,000 shots from all around the court before team practice. For example, he had to make (not attempt) 400 free throws before moving on to the next shot. After team practice he watched up to three hours of game footage of himself and his opponents. He did this every single day of the summer in preparation for the upcoming season. Kobe is truly a student of the game and his success is no mistake. Success leaves trails and it is up to us to follow those same patterns. Read more
FIFA interviews Spanish goaltender Iker Casillas
Iker Casillas is one of the best goalies in the game today. Not only is he one of the best goalies of the modern generation, but potentially of all time. He is included in conversations all over the world about deserving to be the nominated as the best player on the planet. That’s quite a feat considering a goalie has never even been considered for the award, nevermind won the award. In a recent interview with FIFA, Casillas talks about who he feels is the best player in the world, what the life of a top goalie consists of, and explains his recent success with Spain on the world stage.
Loyalty in Soccer DOES Exist
Argentinian all-star and current member of the Boca Juniors club in Argentina — Juan Riquelme — has done something that is very commendable and refreshing among all of the negativity in soccer these days.
Ian Holloway’s rant against FIFA and the 2022 World Cup
It’s about time someone in the professional football world speak-up and against the 2022 World Cup decision. Most recently Blackpool manager, Ian Holloway, shared his thoughts on FIFA considering a winter 2022 World Cup. Yes that is correct…a winter world cup. Ronaldo strikes again
Cristiano Ronaldo has single handily revolutionized the way free kicks are taken. He has developed a unique technique that has dazzled fans and baffled goalies. Over the past 4-5 years, he has worked tirelessly to perfect what some refer to as the “knuckle ball.” In a recent Spanish La Liga match where Ronaldo’s Real Madrid played against Real Valladolid, a free kick was earned approximately 25 yards out from Real Valladolid’s net. Things I would do differently to get a scholarship: part 1
After finishing with college soccer and understanding the entire process the way I do now there are a number of things I would change if I got to do it all over again. Many people have gone through the recruitment process, each slightly differently. The good news is you don’t have to invent the wheel. Instead, you can copy the same steps others have to taken to achieve this goal of theirs. In part 1 of this series I discuss some of the changes I would stress all soccer players looking to play at the college should be aware of.
