Brazilian star Ronaldo has confirmed in a press conference that he has scored his last goal in a prolific and storied career in football that saw him become the top scorer in the history of the World Cup.
There are two main reasons why a wall is created in soccer:
- Create an obstacle for your opponent who is trying to shoot/cross
- Aid your goalie who has a large net to cover
This is a very touchy subject. The player I pick might not necessarily be the player you pick. Plus, what are the standards? Is it the player who scores more goals? Well that’s not a fair measure because it will naturally favour forwards; the entire team works to provide the forward with the ball to score. Is it the player who has the best tricks? Most assists? Most trophies? You get the point….
As kids, when we were first introduced to the sport of soccer, many of us used our toes to shoot – a.k.a the toe-punt. Whether for reasons of comfort, instinct, or whatever it might have been, we used our toes. Not only is this technique visible in youth learning the sport, but a classic example can be seen with inexperienced soccer players (of all ages) who kick a ball for the first time…not exactly graceful.
Deciding which team you should play for is a big decision for your soccer career. The ideas mentioned in this blog are universal for all levels of play and age groups. If you are so fortunate to have several options to teams to chose from then all the better. On the other side you may have fewer options. Either way there are a number of areas to consider and questions you should ask yourself prior to selecting a club.
There is more to being a forward in the game of soccer than just being an attacker or wanting to shoot and score. All forwards in soccer have several unique qualities that separate them from the other positions on the field.
1) Instinct in front of the net: true forwards will have a knack for finding the back of the net. They will be calm when that last touch is needed to score a goal.
“Every time I went away I was deceiving my mum. I’d tell her I was going to school but I’d be out on the street playing football. I always had a ball on my feet.” – Ronaldo
A skilled dribbler like Ronaldo can destroy even the best-organized defenses and embarrass opponents with slick footwork and improvisation. His perfected technique, combined with strength, control, speed, and awareness of other players on the field make him an masterful dribbler that leaves his fans in awe.
